I see the ADAT 24 track digital unit advertised in the new Musician's Friend catalog, $1,999.00! Do any of you have one yet?

I really value the oppinions of the BBS members, and would greatly appreciate some "hands on" experienced answers.

Sincerely;

Dom Franco

FINALLY!

I cannot believe it, I got my hands on an ADAT HD24. I bought it the other day from Digital Playroom, a local music store here in Alabama (of all places).

http://www.digitalplayroom.com
Their phone number is (205) 823-2002. The 1-800 number on the web site is not working. I'll have to Check with them to see if they have a new number.

I have not had a chance to hook it up because I had a session last night. I should have it up and working by the end of this weekend. As soon as I have it running and used it some, I'll let you all know my thoughts.

Awe man fishmed, I'm truly jealous of you! I'm approx $573.24 away from getting me one! IF ONLY CHRISTMAS WASN"T COMING!! I'd have one now!!!

Is their anyway to tell your kid that Christmas has been cancelled this year!!??:)

Sorry, don't have one of those... at least none that I know of. :D

HD24 Maybe a good Solution?

I bought one for $1800 by barganing. Picking the right mixing board can be tricky. The Studio 32 is on order for me because nothing else works for mobile solutions (19" rack mountable)

Initial reaction:
Manual is iffy.
Alesis's phone system needs some real help if you have a question, expect to call twice, but knowlegeable when I got through. The call went through after hours and he answered.

Website is scarry. I hope my investment is sound.

Hardware:
No virtual tracks, no video out (like HDR or VS2480)
Great input/ output support built in.
Version 1.0 of a new product?

I may switch thougths?

Options:
1. Alesis HD24 with Studio 32 Mixer
2. Roland VS-2480
3. Mackie HDR w/ Studio 32
4. Mackie MDR w/ Studio 32

Need portable recording. Please give your opinion.

huh?

Excuse me...why would you be concerned about video out? Fer gosh sakes, this sucker has ETHERNET out. I can fly this stuff out into my computer and use ANY software progarm I choose to manipulate the sound. This is a huge advantage over the Mackie machine imho. I like Mackie and have a 24X8, but their machine is essentially a slower Pentium computer configured as a recorder. Damn...there ya go, I've said it. All the gloom and doom about Alesis will prove to be unfounded. These recorders are going to be a huge hit when folks realize what is actually being sold.

I've got several adats, a Masterlink, and an older quadrasynth. Got a pair of monitor ones and a Q2 reverb. Alesis rules.

I would'nt say fly

It took about 45 minutes to transfer a 6 Gig file to
a PC over FTP which is a long time.

Also both units have 100MB Ethernet.

Isn't it possible to just put the HDD into the computer? That'd only take 25-30 minutes....

6GB in 45 minutes = fast IMO.... that'd be like.. 100MB in 45 seconds...

You cannot take the HDD from the Alesis and simply stick it into a PC. Both systems use different OS, so they are incompatible.

The Alesis Ethernet is only a 10Base-T, you can have a converter for 100Base-T to go to your PS, but you will only get the performance of the 10Base-T. I wish they would have gone with 100Base-T.

OK I'M saving up my money...

I hope the price drops or just remains the same.... and mabye they will come out with a version 2.0 fixing initial bugs!

Merry Christmas All

10 base? no wonder they went bankrupt. with people trying to save $0.35 a machine by buying cheaper network cards is stupid.

A slow pentium aye... Right... What do you want to have. A mainframe?!? A pentium is one hell of a processor, fast, blahblah... You have to realize that these processors are able to record yer audio while running a bad bad bad operating system. The software running on the mackies is dedicated software, probably fast and stable as hell. Jee... The only thing you can probably blame them for is being lazy and not trying to put it in a cheaper smaller and slower processor...

No bugs that I know of!

I haven't heard of any problems with the HD24, I just figured at some point they will upgrade the software version... You know those pointy headed computer geeks... they are always "improving" something.

Dom:)
