Down to just one or two more tunes to finish up the new CD, yay... This one is called Across Gibraltar and features Stacey Knights on soprano sax, and guitar solos by Douglas Lichterman. I'm the whole rhythm section... I think it's just tweaks away, but am interested in objective ears... (Man, listening to things over and over really desensitizes you!) I think the bottom might be a little fat and undefined, and I think the sax might be sitting just a little down in the mix. It passes the car test, though... :D

Thanks in advance!

Across Gibraltar is the 2nd song on the list.

Listening as I write. I'd like to hear the poppin' part of the bass come out a little more. The crash cymbals seems thin to me, maybe some more mids to get a fuller crash. I'm okay with the sax level. Nice tone on the guitar.

... or you could not make any tweaks and this song is good to go.

great job.

I think the only nit I have is the sax does not sound like it is in the same "room" as the other instruments.

Maybe a choice of reverb or the sound of the room captured with the sax recording..
I love the other sounds I hear.

Oddly enough, everything was recorded in the same room. :) The sax player did specifically ask to be a little "wetter" though. And I did sort of want to create a tiny air of distance, like it was a solitary light, flying over the nighttime desert, so I didn't mind. I'd normally have it a tad drier, and I did at first, but it somehow flattened it out dimensionally. It's sort of a busy space underneath it. Thanks for listening closely enough to pick up on that spatial anomaly. I'll still end up re-examining it in the end, as I tend to second guess myself, screw it up, then go back and set things right. :D

Chili,
My cymbals are very dark and very fat, I thin them out a little on purpose; because they crowd everything in their midst if I don't. I end up underselling the drum overhead in general for this reason. Thanks again! :) More stuff to think about when I've had a few days away from it... :)

Joey,
Much appreciated!
