Here's a little song my girlfriend and I wrote... "Hover" I converted to a 320Kbs MP3 so the file is like 8.6mb... you might want to skip it if you're on a dial up modem.

We were thinking about re-doing some of the vocal harmonies, please let me know other things that could use some fixin' on the song. Thanks!

hehe... there we go... I knew I forgettin' something!?

Finally, I'm not the only asshole using 320kbps...:D

The guitars seem to be overpowering her voice a lot on this one. Turn them down and let us hear her, eh?

There's some timing (and tuning) issues between the various guitars. You might wanna simplify the part a little - the guitars are kinda center stage here and I think she should be, you know?

Less guitar, more chick. That's my $.02.

Cheers,
Chris

Yeah that's quite an MP3. You could probably get away with 192kbps and be just fine.

Nice feel, nice soft tones. Things seem to be tracked well enough.

The first thing I notice is that the guitars are taking up all the space. There's no room for the vocals to come though. I'd work to find where most of the vocal is and make some EQ cuts in the guitar's in that range.

I noticed what seemed to be some performance glitches (a few guitar notes slightly out of tune - not the ones that were obviously intentional, some vocal syncing issues, maybe a vocal out of pitch just a bit in a spot or two). That's what punch-ins are for :D:D:D

Is she singing

Can't hear her at all. Turn down the damn guitars.

turn those god damned to hell satan guitars down already!

sloop,

Well, I'm a fan of constructive criticism but I don't think that any fucking profanities are necessary!

smaller is better.. that's what she says... or something...

I re posted the song on NowhereRadio as a smaller MP3 file (now only 3.4mb!) http://www.nowhereradio.com/frankyandthedevil/singles

Are the guitars really that overpowering tho? I really can't hear that they're drowning out the vocals at all. My ears are pretty new to this intensive listening that comes along with recording but I really don't hear that the vocals are being drowned out. I will take your advice tho Triple and try to blend the vocals into the mix better! thanks for the advice!

That's pretty common. When you know the words, and have heard them sung 100 times, they come through the mix just as clear as anything. But to someone who is not as familiar with the lyrics, they have a tougher time hearing them. It's just something you need to train your ears to do.

P.S., I've only made this mistake 4 or 5 hundred times.

Nice tune

All the advice you need has already been posted. And since you asked - yes, indeed the guitars are way too loud. (And I only say that 'cause you asked). Now that we're over that point - nice tune with a nice melody and decent harmonies. Your girlfriend has a really nice voice - must be cool to have her actually participating in the studio. And since you both have the passion for music you can spend some quality time together and tighten this tune up. It's worth it!! Thanks for sharing!

Good mix, a little bit muddled, though

I checked the song out on NowhereRadio. I'm very impressed with everyones' skills here - the drums, the piano (especially), and the lady in their. However, as you've probably already heard from some of the other writers, the timing gets off a little and her voice gets lost in all the keys and guitars and such. I do they same thing all the time, I want to start off groovy and roll into a throng of sound (it's like you see the video in your head or that scene in the movie soundtrack...), but it's a tricky technique if you don't have "catchy" loops and words and such. So, I've probably given you advice that you already knew, however, it's better than nothing.

Overall, I like it. Keep up the good work, I expect many more devilishly creative things to come out of you love birds.

BP

PS - which one is the Devil? I'm guessing it's her, and that's just spookily fabulous!
