Can anyone make a few suggestions on purchasing an acoustic guitar. I have played for quite a few years but have not shopped recently and sort of out of touch. (I'm and O.F.)I have a telecaster and and American strat. I do some digital recording on the computer, and a music man bass. Had them for few years. Strictly hobby stuff. I have not owned an acoustic for several years. So I'm sort of out of touch with what is out there, and what is the most bang for the buck. I know Martin is always a good buy. I have heard good things about Tacoma for the money. Not looking to spend a fortune (Between $500-750) Any suggestions? ---

buy a gillet from australia 1200 usd will buy you something better then you will find for the same dollars over there assuming your in the us not saying you cant get a good guitar there just saying for the dollars ive sugested nothing i know of touches a gillet and ive owned and played many guitars to know this as well if your intrested i can point you in the right direction just some food for thought

before i get shot down yep i realise you want to spend less then what ive sugested :-) for a lil more you wont be visiting ebay thats for sure

Seagull guitars all have solid wood tops and are a lot of guitar for the price.

Buy used=save big. Do not buy a used guitar unless you try it. Do not buy used from any of the on line auction houses, if you dont like what you get you are stuck.

Guitar Center has the Taylor 310 on sale right now for $750, probably with no case, until the 31st. Seagull is also a great guitar, but I would stay away from it if you want to do any heavy strumming. I've recently developed a liking for Alvarez guitars, but good luck with what you choose.:)

Play enough guitars so that you know what tone woods you want first and then worry about brands. Spruce, cedar, koa (insert other woods here) top? Mahogany, rosewood, maple (insert other woods here) back/sides? Find out what you want before you look at brands and prices. You will learn what the woods sound like and which ones are more expensive. You will then be able to tell if a guitar is what you want and is a good buy. It doesn't do any good to say "This guitar is $700" if it has mahogany sides and your set on rosewood. Check out Seagal or Tacoma, they should both have solid guitars in that price range. I personaly do not care for the inexpensive Martins because they have laminated sides. You may find more brands options if you look used but always look them over and play them first. Good luck.

Just read that thread that Treeline posted... it's all you need to see.

Plus, there's some good advice about BEER! :D
