strings

i myself only use one kind of string, i ONLY use John Pearse. he started building strings for my grandpa a few years ago. and thats all i have ever used.

Among the coated strings, I like the D'Addario EXPs better than the Elixirs. They probably don't last quite as long, but they don't fray and they sound closer to the uncoated D'Addario EJ17s that I used to use. I've also tried the Dean Markley Alchemy, which look really cool, but don't sound as good on my guitar.

I like the Elixir Nano Webs in med light on a properly set up Martin om. and the John Pearse lights for a Taylor, though they don't last long they have a great sound when new.

Wheres the other option?

I use Robert's on my 6-string acoustics and me 12-string acoustic aswell as both me electrics.

I used to use D'Addario Phosphor Bronze on my Martin acoustic. Switched to Elixir polyweb, now I use Elixir nanoweb medium gauge. It sounds great on a D-35.

Too bad Guitar Center here in Pensacola quit selling them :(

I personally like the GHS strings on my Washburn. They don't last as long as I'd like, but when they're on they sound great. I tried a set of Martin SP's, which used to work beautifully on my Yahama, but they didn't sound as crash hot on the Washburn.

I use John Pearce strings on my Martin. I tried some nanos, and wasn't impressed with the tone. I like GHS on my twelve string roundback, but they sound crappy on my sons Yamaha. It all depends on the guitar.

Yeah, my opinion as well. I used to use the old Blue Steel on my Washburn 12 string and 6 string before they were stolen, the Yamaha works well with the Martin's, my current Washburn with the GHS is sweet. I think the way the guitar is built, the materials used, etc. influences how the guitar will sound with different strings.

I agree with your assessment of the Elixers. To me they sound dull when you first put them on.

This is funny to me, because most of the time with my Nanowebs people comment on how new the strings sound even when they are over a month old...

whenever i can get my hands on a pack of John Pearse, I do. they come out of the gate pretty "dull" sounding, but they sound really substantial and can take my abuse. plus, i can't seem to snap one for the life of me, and the best part is these strings still sound the same forever.

imho that's far better than martins and d'addarios, which start out superbright and dull into rust in a week or two. plus snap like twigs for some reason.

btw, for classical guitar i use dell arte. good stuff.
