Hello, all. I have a pretty nice acoustic gutar (Larrivee DV-05E), and I'm having problems getting the 4th (D) string peg out of the bridge. I tried the tool at the end of the string winders to no avail. Actually the peg's so wedged in there that the string winder cracked in the attempt to pull the peg out. I also tried putting a soft cloth around the wooden peg and using some needle nosed pliers to get it out, but I fear breaking something. I loosened all my strings and felt that the ball end of the string is wedged pretty tightly with the peg. I am pretty worried that this is a serious problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. If you need more info, please don't hesitate to ask. My baby's hurtin'. I want her to be okay!

I have used needle nose pliers to fix that sort of thing. Grab the peg nice and tight with the pliers and work it back and forth with a twisting motion - as if you were trying to unscrew it.
Applying pressure from the bottom of the peg, inside the body, would help, if you can find some way of getting in there (maybe someone with skinny arms could help).
If that doesn't work, you could easily drill the peg out, but it goes without saying you want to be very careful not to hit the bridge. A small drill such a dremel would be perfect.

They always get stuck!
I usually push up from the bottom,if that dosn't work, try tapping it up from underneath,,gently, while pulling from the top!
Use the end of your needlenose.

Drill the peg out????

Push the string DOWN from the top while pushing the pin UP from inside. Don't push the pins in so far next time. You're gonna wind up with a cracked bridge.

Another trickis to cut the balls off your old set of strings and work them onto the base of your new strings. This gives you a "free" wedge for the pin to set against. Also, install new strings so the the tail of the core faces up and away from the saddle.

Thanks all...she's singing her pretty tune again. It was successful when I pushed the peg out underneath with the end of my string winder. It popped out after a couple of tries. Thanks for all of your help!
