Acoustic Guitar Mic

I just got a mint acoustic guitar sound micing with 1 sure sm81 condensor mic and a tripod stand.. The stand shaped like a hangman with the mic pointing straight down at the fingering hand about 12 inches high.

Perfectly clear. Im happy.

Happy you're happy. One question....

Is the 81 an omni???

I thought it was a cardiod.

The reason I ask is that if it is a cardiod and you have the mic pointing straight down, you are using an off axis response, yes?

Of course that doesn't mean its not a desirable off-axis response but how would that relate to that mic's on-axis response???

I think I read that mic has a very flat response curve.

I know that different acuostics radiate differently also but I am just interested in what you like about that position and why?

The SM81 is cart only..Seems like hes pointing it down at fingerboard instead of straight at it..takeing some of the brightnest and softening the "focus" out of the 12th fret position..Just a guess as the 81 can be a little brite sometimes{guitar dependent}

Sorry I never replied to this thread, I forgot about it.
I dont know a god damn thing about the mic except that it sounds good to my ears.

I've been pointing it toward my fingering hand at the twelth fret or over my head pointing strait down at the 2nd fret.

Not that that really helps you any, but I stumbled back across the thread, and thought I'd reply.
