what kind of fabric should I use when building absorbers with mineral wool? I wanted to use some nice looking fabrics but most have either embroidered designs on them or are thicker than just cotton. some our kinda like a quilted material and more dense. How much of an effect will this have on my absorbers? will it help it absorb more, or block too much sound from being absorbed? thanks guys.

My Opinion

As long as the fabric breathes (as in you can put your lips up to it and breathe through it) it wont block the high frequencies fron being absorbed.
I used burlap for my absorbers because it fit the decor of my room, and it was relatively cheap (about 2 bucks a yard). It is VERY sturdy and should last for a long, long time.

I built some recently ( and I keep meaning to take pics and show them off here). I originally planned to use cheap fabric from the clearance bin. Ultimately, though, I went with black felt (it was quite a bit more - $4/yd, or something). I think it looks really nice, and was great to work with - stretchy but not too stretchy. You could use something cheaper for the back side, if they are going to be wall mounted.

Here is a picture of the burlap covered panels. The ceiling is not quite finished and I have 40 more panels to build before I am done, but you can see how they look.

I like that burlap look. could you possibly post a close up of one single absorber? The room is going to be a red wine color so that tan burlap would actually look pretty good. thanks.

sure

I'll take a close up maybe this evening. (tuesday) I just hung a few on the wall so it will be easier.
I personally think it would look WONDERFUL against a wine colored backdrop. I like the organic look of the rough fabric too.

So the M-Audio FW410 is a really good sound absorber for acoustic treatments in a recording room?

Nice spam, spammer.

I used cotton muslin that I found at Hancock Fabrics. My wife had a coupon, and I got it for less than $1/yd including tax.
