About to make a big purchase...

After weeks of deliberation on what the best options would be for me to start recording, it has come down to this:

Omni Studio w/ Delta 66

Johnson J-Station

Shure sm-57

The price tag on this comes out to just over $600. Right now I mainly want to record guitars (acoustic and electric), bass, and vocals. I have a SB live already installed on my computer, which will allow me to use MIDI also. I am just using drum samples and loops right now, but if I ever wanted to record drums in the future I could add two preamps, a good kick mic and two overheads, and I'd be in business.

I just wanted to have some one look this over and give me their opinions on what I am about to purchase. Thanks
 
I have the Delta 44 and the J-station. I must say I have been quite pleased with both. (though you can tell I am a bottom feeder!)

Of course a -57 is always a good purchase. I think, however, you might consider one of the newer, low-end condensor microphones for your vocals - I have the Marshall MXL-67G, but the Studio Projects C-1 gets even higher marks around here. You can get the 67 for only $149 at one of the online stores - perhaps Mars? If you do a search on that mic, you will find it. I LOVE it.

You will find that a large-diaphram condenser generally is more accurate than dynamic mics like the -57 and -58.

Of course, you would need a pre-amp that has phantom power with a condensor mic - but if you already have a mixer you probably have that base covered.
 
You neglected to mention what you're gonna use for Software.

And I'd get a pair of those SM-57s. A real stereo image (as opposed to a virtual stereo image concocted from one signal, a delay and some other effects) can really fatten up your sound. You can always use them even if you eventually want a better mic, which will come up if you want a really clear and detailed sound.

That package sounds like a great deal to me.

Software-wise I have:

Cakewalk Pro Audio 9

Fruity Loops 3 Full

Acid

and a version of sound forge that came with my SB Live. I know that CW 9 is getting kind of outdated, so what would you recommend upgrading too. Doesn't the Omni come with Logic? I'll use acid for drum loops and what not, and fruitly loops for various its various synths, etc. Does anyone know of any good acid drum loops/samples CD's. I think the drum pack they sell at sonicfoundry.com would be ideal, but it's $200.
