...and MORE importantly, I am glad that this won't overshadow the fine effort dres and chris are putting into a very poignant song.
:D

It's back! :D :D

Mixmkr's little thread is the inspiration for this post. Okay, right off the bat. I'm not going to delete this thread, so feel free to ignore it if you think I'm posting too many songs (because I am).

This version is *MY* last version, b/c my computer mysteriously purged itself of my vocal track, and I'm probably not singing it again since DRES will in the near future. All the other tracks are there (all 3 of them, LOL), but my vocal's gone.

But I changed some of the lyrics up this afternoon, b/c I thought you guys (okay, mixmkr) and Dres had some excellent ideas.

STS-107 (this was the NASA mission designation for the Columbia Flight)

Thanks to everybody who listened to this already...you're officially exempt from having to listen to this version. :D

Oh yeah, my wife (who is about 10X more sarcastic than me) cried when she heard this...I think it's the cello.

where's the thread???????? youv'e deleted this already!!!!!! Where's the song!!!!!!

hey man, nothing to say sarcasticly this time. nice, very very nice.
thoughtfull and heartfelt. my brother in law work's for johnson engineering/nasa in houston. so it hit close to home. My wife has been very down since this tragedy, i'll let her listen to this when she get's home, it should make her feel worse( ok, one sarcastic comment):D but she is going to ball.

your a good man, Chris Harris (most of the time) #2:D

thank's for this, bro!

Peace

Rick

Thanks Rick; I can relate to the "close to home" comment. I mentioned this elsewhere...but that footage that got the most airplay (shuttle coming from the right) was shot by my neighbor from my driveway.

Oh, and I went to school with the guy who's talking in 90% of the samples - he works mission support, and he called me Sunday morning...obviously, down.

Oh, and Dres asked if I'd be interested in writing something about this, and I wanted to, so I got about 1/2 of it written when I got a call from our local CBS program manager who asked if I might be able to do...(guess what)...write a tune about it. LOL.

COINCIDENCES??? Probably, but still cool.

THE FACE OF GOD
You always were, a curious child,
A little bit restless every once in awhile
You shone brightly with ambition
And you could fly in your dreams,

You never knew if you ever would,
But you carried through, you always understood,
There is something larger than all of us,
There’s a universe – To see

We are small, but connected as one,
Through it all, we’re reaching for the sun
All we could do, was watch you and applaud
While you went to touch the Face of God.

We’re living in a world where nothing is free,
Some pay a little, some pay everything,
We are grounded we are humbled,
We have stumbled, but still we try…

Rep. First Chorus

Bridge:
I am a mortal man,
So I do not understand,
A day, that will take you away.

You always were a curious child,
We lost you in sorrow, to a great flash in the sky
But you’ll live on now forever,
In a world where people dream

We are all connected as one,
You stood tall, reaching for the sun,
All we could do, was stand and look at you in awe,
While you,

We are all suffering as one
We still try things that can’t be done
All we can do is remember you right now and wonder how,
You touch the face of God.

purrrrfect. the cello really adds....what a depresing instrument the cello is!!:( :D

Having the lyrics in front of me while listening, really helped me out. I like 'em...whether they are much different from your original ones, I don't know, but these are nice.

Thanks for the song... this one means a lot...

Oh, I totally understand. I mean, after the hundreds of hours I've spent working on your tunes, I can see how it'd be pretty tough to have to suffer through that little box being on your screen for 10-15 minutes while you're doing other stuff.

Thanks a lot for trying.

asshole:D

Chris - first of all I want you to know this caused me to do two NWR downloads in one night on my 28.8 dialup (since I was already downloading one when you posted this). As a result no one has been able to call me for about an hour (not that anyone ever calls me anyway). :)

Great song! I love the guitar playing and the guitar sound.

The interspersed mission control clips tie it all together. Very nicely done.

I must say, though, it's not one of your best vocals. Your voice sounds a little thin and a little horse.

However, the best thing about this song is that it's not maudlin. That's a tough emotion to step around on a song like this, so my hat's off to you. Good luck with it.

Thanks a lot for the post, man. Yeah, I tracked the majority of the vocal at about 3:00 a.m. after about 100 cigarettes and with a nasty little bug that my wife and I both have.

I may not have mentioned it here, but "Dres" is going to sing the final version of this. This version was put together for a little spot on a local nothing TV station here...trust me, more people will hear it here than on TV...

But I really appreciate the mood comments. I've never had so much difficulty writing one before. So thanks.

[edit] and I'll admit that there's one part in here where I just kinda' lost it: I don't know why, really. I didn't even know the damned thing was in space before it crashed. But I kept that part in.

listening right now...

man i love this guitar part......cello...sounds great it doesnt stick out at all....which is perfect....now its "went" to touch the face of god....cool.
man i already told you most of this...cello sounds great ....im trying to be picky...lets see....on some of the notes on the cello right before "touch the face of god"...it gets louder.....hows that???..lol...

and i guess if dres is gonna sing it for a final version i wont tell you how much i like the harmonies....

"remember you right now" thats new too......

nice work for a hick..

Hey Chris,

Nice piece dude. you captured that common denominator that of us humans can relate to which equals good writting.

I had a tiny nit with the mix at the end when the nasa sample cluttered the speech but that could very well just be me.

I've been intentionaly saturated with your music as of late and can't seem to get sick of hearing you. When it happens, I'll let you know:)

Peace and musement,

Theron.

Hey Chris,
....wow man. Very Very cool tune. The cello not only sounds great but is a perfect instrumental addition in this particular tune. Really brings out the melancholy vibe in this.....beautiful. Very well tracked guits too.... perfect panning for this. ...full and rich.... ...beautiful. Great song man, ...nice vocs and lyrics ...this tune is gonna mark an event in time for me.
g w/ 5 for a great song, and 7 great folks
:D

Your work here is done, my friend. Thank you.

Very cool, very creative with the Cello part.

The cello part was recorded for another song that Chris did. Very cool what you did with it.

The Cellist is a really close friend of mine, Heidi is supercool, and we are working on a bunch of songs for you bums here. It really is cool: adding a violin AND cello is the way to go. We just did one for Joro, we added tracks for TrackRat, we have a bunch for Chris that he has not heard.

Heidi plays with Trans-Siberian Orchestra with me, and she has played with YES with me. I only get the finest players, she is the best cellist I know.

Chris, you got the skills to pay the bills. You are first-class, you should be a pro.

Somebody send me a POD, dag nabit! I cant afford one, certainly one of you kind folks has one, Hold me:( I have a funky electric, but I dont have an amp or anything, so I really need a pod.
This tune is dying for electric violin, so maybe some rich dude out there has a pod. I am not gay, but I can learn.

Oh wait, I dont want to play hide the salami, I will stay poor and play acoustic.

Chris, I will send you the new parts to " December" tomorrow, I got some decent takes- Dave

Hey Chris, great tune.
The vocal sounded well thought out and sung just not in one continuous take. I think you should definitley sing a track of harmony with dres(?) on the final.

Thanks for the moment.

Hi people,

only just checked ouT the song... it's sounding pritty good eh ?

just one point though mixmkr about your addition .... umm I'm not really sure it's the best way to say it. Funny thing is I listened to the song first without even seeing this thread and picked out that line as being very different ... makes sense now I know that it comes from a third contributor.

what I suggested instead is "we'll always remember, those diamonds in the sky" (note .. before I even read this thread)
Why ... because I think the line "we lost you in sorrow, to a great flash in the sky" is too literal and wordy. The lines that follow make it clear the people are deceased "But you'll live on now forever" so I don't think we have to spell out their death at this point in the song.

Look it's just a suggestion and I've no intention of treading on anyone's toes. My suggestion is just that... a suggestion and I won't cry if it stays the way it is. But you'll also understand Chris and I agreed to write this song together so I feel I have a right to comment.

peaceful dissusion is appreciated though

sincerely dres

Very touching song. Didn't have to d/l this, the stream was strong, but I will soon. This has a most "pro" sound to it, really nice recording. Don't know squat about who did what, but I know chrisharris's voice when i hear it:D . Outstanding piece of work men!

I just downloaded this song in 1 minute! Sorry to litter this otherwise somber thread with my good news but I FINALLY HAVE DSL!!!

Ok, now for the song. I love the cello! That is a great addition. Who did that?? Are they available for other collabs?

I don't understand something. Is someone else going to sing this eventually? You do a great job, why hand this off to someone else....unless they are someone famous or something.

The vocals sound very DRY. Is it true, you've converted from a reverbaholic? Coming over to the dry side? The vocal sounds very good anyway.

I really like the drummer on this one! Really knows how to lay back in the pocket. Very tasteful playing.

My sympathy to all those affected.
