A Recording Laptop?

Hey,

I want to get a laptop but I'm not sure what to get.

I'm only going to be having one line going in (but many tracks). For example, I'll play my guitar and then replay it (doubling). Then bass... EZDrummer for drums. I'll be using Cubase LE 4 (possibly upgrading).

Are their any laptops that are set up for recording with a sound card that has a 1/4 jack in?

Otherwise I'm going to need some USB or Firewire interface (still don't know what one).

Thanks!

You're better off using anything else besides a sound card line-in.. I'd get a USB mixer, you can get something decent for $100, 8 tracks, 2 channel interface to your PC, all you need. Alesis Multimix, Yamaha MW10, etc. There are slightly cheaper but way less functional options like Blue Icicle, you'll get a LOT more use out of a little mixer.

Hmm, do you mean ASIO?
And do you mean to say you're actually using the Lexicon Alpha, or you just happen to have the drivers installed...?

If you have humming then that's probably caused by a ground-loop problem with the laptop (and its power supply).

Oh I always (not relizing) used O instead of A for ASIO!

I'm using the actuall device with my computer. I don't have a laptop (I'm planning on getting one.

It's a 800 watt power supply in this computer (it's made for gaming).

macbook are probably the best laptops you can get for recording. go to the tweakheadz website to check out that fact

Agreed, but only if you mean the white MacBook or the MacBook Pro. The metal MacBook has no FireWire ports.

i agree. I have the white macbook with a firewire port. works great. Gonna up the ram to 4 gigs soon i think.

Hmm, I'd like to use windows (that's what I have for everything) but I know mac is good. I just looked at the prices for the mac book pro and holy crap! I want something cheap if I want a bass guitar and EZDrummer! :)

Ohh and the grounding problem, that's what it is. I'm going to make a different thread on that somewhere else becuase I want to fix that. And actually if I fix that I won't need to get a different audio interface!
