A more efficient way of sharing ideas with band mates?

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and I'm looking for advice on something that I have been scouring the Web for, but have not been having much luck.

I'm looking for a quick and easy way to text message new guitar/piano/vocal ideas to my guys via voice memos. The only thing is finding the way to connect the gear I have to the iPad to record it. I'd rather avoid using the iPad's internal mic, obviously.

I have the iPad 2, Voicelive Touch, camera connection kit, a Mac Mini with a couple of DAW's on it, an older Roland HD recorder, a non USB mixer, Alesis QX49 controller, etc.

I usually will lay down a quick riff or what have you on the Roland because it is extremely quick and easy, and since all of my guys have iPhones, I'm thinking of using an RCA to 1/8" cable from the Roland to the Mac Mini mic input, re-recording as a voice memo and sending it out via iMessage.

Any thoughts? I feel like this is more of a headache than it should be. Thanks.

Bryan

There are interfaces available for the iPad on the market. Search for audio interface ipad

I just record video of me playing whatever it is I want to show my bandmates (hooray for smartphones), and text it to them. Easy as pie and no extra $$$, and it can be a lot of fun too.

This may not work for you if your set on sharing ideas through text or via phone but on a computer having a copy of Ohm Studio is a great way to collaborate in real-time. I don't do any actual mixing or serious producing in it but i have a copy on my computer and when i work with bands on a full album or long term projects i'll have them download a copy of Ohm Studio and we can jet ideas back and forth on our own time and all work on the same project file simultaneously from our separate locations. They said it was going to be up for sale the 2nd quarter of this year but as of now you can still download the beta for free, so have every1 grab a copy before they charge.
