I'm having a problem -
Up to now I've used a crappy mic / guitar - directly into the mic input. for recording. Not ideal, but I got some good sounds.
I've just bought an M-Audio Ozone Midi Controller. It's connected to the PC Via USB Cable. I can only get the keyboard to make
a basic Piano sound - I have a few synths etc, but I'm not sure how to get them working, (Also, I would have thought that with 768mb RAM, latency wouldn't be a problem). Anyway - when I plug the
microphone / guitar into the instrument input, I get no sound at all - I'm not really the greatest with the PC side of things. What do I do ?
Can anybody help ?
Also - will using this setup (external soundcard in the keyboard etc) will it eliminate PC noise when recording vocals ?
PLEASE HELLLLPPPPPP !!!! Thanks in advance.....

Incidentally, My soundcard is a basic soundblaster, and my processor is an Athlon AMD. the Software I use is Cubase SX.

I don't have an answer but I do have a question.

You aren't the only one but I often wonder why people with such limited knowledge about audio, recording and computers would go out and buy a $500 piece of recording software? It just boggles the mind.

That Thar's Fighting talk !!!!!! What does Boggle mean ? I have Limited Knowledge in relation to what - All the other users on this board ??? That's why I posted in the Newbie section - I have to start somewhere. Sorry if I sound snotty (temperamental artiste !!!)
All messing around aside though - up until now, I (thought I) knew enough about audio / recording etc to get by. I have a huge number of songs completely recorded (along with lots of PC Noise on the vocals). What I don't know is how to get the bloody mic to record thru the keyboard via the USB port to minimise the noise during recording. Can anybody out there help meeeeeeee ?

Limited in the fact you want to plug a mic into a keyboard. I don't know why you would plug a mic into a keyboard. Limited because you say you have some synths but don't know how to use them. You also said your PC knowledge is limited. And you just asked me Limited in relation to what. You just aren't making sense.

You need a mic preamp for you mic. You would use the output of the pre into the line in on the soundcard. And get something other than a soundblaster. They aren't meant for recording and that's probably where your noise is coming from. Or soak your soundblaster in paint thinner for about a week. That should clean up all that noise. :D

Imagine how my wife feels ?!?!?!? I must be dense (And I don't need anyone to agree with me on this score !!!).
I thought that the M-Audi Ozone is a USB midi controller with an Audio Interface. It has a built in preamp and phantom power. I know SB's are supposed to be muck, but I cannot afford to buy a new soundcard (just had a baby girl - well, the Mrs did). There is a 3 pin mic input on the Keyboard - that's where I'm trying to get a sound, I have tried to record the guitar thru the back of the keyboard - no sound comes from it when I plug in the guitar direct, and no sound comes when I stick an old mic through the same input. Do I have to push some button, or work some black magic ?
RE Synths - I just want to add colour to my singer songwriter stuff so as I don't sound like every other 'worthy', sincere heartfelt performer.
Am I still talking gibberish ???

Have you got Cubase set to use the right input and not the sound blaster like you've been using in the past? I'm not real sure how to work those M audio cards but yeah....

That's probably it.

At work now - I'll try that as soon as I get a chance this evening. Thanks very much - Also thanks to HangDawg too.

Don't know if you guys figured it out already, but the Ozone is BOTH a MIDI and a Audio Interface, so pluging in the mic to the keyboard is okay in this case....
