Ok, so I got everything covered in my new studio I am setting up, but I need a good mic to record vocals. The main person doing vocals will be me, so if any of you have any suggestions on a few mics that would suit my voice I would really appreciate it. I am looking for mics up to 300 dollars, so if you could make some suggestions of low dollar and high dollar mics that would be awesome! So here's my music...

And yes, that strapping young lad in the photo is me... (thinks to himself "strapping... haha whatever that means")

So please help me out and recommend some microphones!

Thanks,

Are you going to audition the recommend mics... or are you just going to buy the mic that gets the most post? I have a feeling your above post is more about getting hits (downloads) on your songs than about you wanting a mic?

I only listened to the first example, but whatever it was you recorded with sounds really midrangy.

I think you should be looking for something with a little more of a scoop . . . or what they call a "smiley-face curve," with good proximity effect. A few that might fit that bill would be the Studio Projects C1 (condenser) or the Beyer M88 (dynamic).

With either one of those two options, you can get in really close to the mic and take advantage of some proximity effect that would de-emphasise the apparent midranginess of your voice -- maybe take some of the edge off and make your voice sound fuller.

That would be my call, at least.

audio technica 3035 or 4033, they'll work on your voice AND on that guitar (which needs some attention too)

thanks to post number two, and post number one... Yes I plan on testing the mics out. As far as wanting more plays... nah, this place isn't exactly a target audience. I am really trying to get my home studio put together... you can search through the board for my other post. I only have 3 I think and they are all about this new studio I am try to put together. Sorry if this came accross to you as shameless self promotion, but in other threads I had seen others asking what kind of voice and in reviews they keep talkinga bout what kind of voices they tried the mic on, so I thought hearing my voice might help.

oh, and the reason I am setting up the home studio is because I just paid a bunch of money to have my CD recorded at a real studio and I think I would be better off putting my money into a home studio and recording my next release at home. That way I can have as much time as I want on it and I won't have to worry about the bucks racking up while I take a few more shots at a song.

that's great, it's what i'm trying to do ... just be prepared for the fact that your bedroom / basement hasn't been acoustically treated so it probably won't 'sound' as good as the studio!

Your gonna need it if you're new at this (thats not a knock- but there is a pretty steep learning curve):)

I recorded my ep in my room, but the equipment was not as good as what I am looking into now. So I know enought that I am not going in blindly, but yea it will take me a while to get the hang of it. I do have some friends that know what they are doing and they can help me learn this stuff quicker. So hopefully it won't be too bad :)
