im setting up a home studio to be used for creating hip hop beats and recording vocals. ive been recording for a while using my computer which is an emachines w3115 everything is stock and a shure pg 58 dynamic microphone and audacity. i also use reasons 4 to make beats. what i would like to know is moving forward should i get a new computer or would a ram upgrade be sufficient. it currently has 384 megs. im thinking of gettin a 1 gig upgrade to help speed the computer up a bit. after that i would like to have opinions on daws. what is there to gain from buying an expensive daw. i could go on asking questions forever i basically need to know what i need to make my stuido better any help would be appreciated

This is in the wrong forum by a long shot. It should go in the "Digital Recording & Computers" forum.

Ram will help some, but unless you are using tons of samples and plugins, CPU upgrade is a better choice. which in this day and age means a newer computer which most for the last 3 yrs anyway come with at least 1gig ram. Frankly, upgrading to anything less than an X58/i7/Win7 64b 4-6gig ram is a step backward. My less than expert .02.
And yes, what Rami AND Myriad said.

eMachines Official Site - - W3115 Product Details

My son has a Speak and Spell with more processing power than that PC, jira88.

A quick bit of googling reveals that Reason 4 retails at $469, while your W3115 retailed for less than that when it was new in 2006.

I'm not saying that you are using pirated software, but I think that if you had paid for it, you'd likely have spelled "Reason" correctly.

tl;dr: Your computer sucks.
