The Pie Guy
New recording....
"I Want You To know"....WIP....Vox to follow.....
need help with the mix.....any suggestions??

BTW.....I am gonna re-do the bass line.....I suck at bass.....
it's at Soundclick......

Thanks ahead of time....I've been up all night with new software and guits.......man....I love this stuff.....

Nice depth. The sound is full and fairly wide. I cant really hear a musical idea worth talking about coming through, it sounds like some campy chords and arpegiations struggling to sound like something vaguely familiar but coming off as completely generic and aimless. One of the guitars sounds a little thin and too upper middy.

Thanks.....

For the honest reply......

I will work on it for sure....

Take it easy,
Joe

yeah i agree ..need to more to keep your attention..there is alot going on...and im sure it is really cool to play..but to listen it all happens kinda at the same time... make sense?....for the most part the gut sound is nice ..maybe this too advanced for me to comprehend but it seems to be a bit out of time with itself ...however i can hear chords in there that i certainly cant play so....take that for what you will......good luck:)

I think your guitar tone is coming along VERY nicely. You pumped the crap outta' the highs, didn't you...c'mon, you know you did. You jacked 'em through the roof. New strings are a plus. Okay, enough rambling. 2 things...(1) your acoustic tone will be GREAT very soon. (2) post a finished song...I know what it's like to get all excited and jittery with new stuff (well, actually, I don't know what that's like, but I can IMAGINE it'd be pretty cool and motivating), but you're only about 1/8th of the way done with this song. You know you need to redo the bassline, you know you WANT to add some vox, you KNOW you do!!!!

Round it out, complete the thought... then I'll be happy to tell you how great it is.

:D

Thanks guys

I did get excited......
I should know better than to post an unfinished piece.....

gonna work on it and make it cohesive......

Thanks again :)

yes ... please make it cohesive... :D ... gtr almost sound DIed :( or are they... ? more.... make a beat even if just tapping a guitar ... egg shakers are great too ...
cheers

Yea the acoustics sound DI'ed... they have that odd tone... or, maybe you mic'ed a little to far into the near field? What I mean is kind of an exaggeration around 5-6k. What mics did you use, if they're not di'ed?

I like the composition... The bass just kind of hangs around like a ghost, barely noticed. Two minutes in... some type of tempo, or arrangement change would be cool...

Kinda reminds me of Zeppelin, in a way... the progression...

The bass notes that do come thru... some of them are dissonant, as if you haven't decided on your bassline notes yet. As this is, it's good background music... but right now, it feels like a 7 minute intro.

If you can possibly get access to a pair of octava mc012 mics, go for that. You'd lose that harpsichord tone... but that's only if you're not happy with the current sound :) It would be cool to actually write other parts that involved different instruments or to build an arrangement, including vox.

Hopefully now that this is back on page one, you'll get some more ideas.

Thanks guys....

Yup....it is DIed....Brand new Taylor 314 CE.......I thought the Fishman did a good job through the soundcard....(Audigy Platinum)...but....I am gonna revert to my ancient Numark Pre......I bought a Shure SM 48-LC and I have a shitty old Realistic (20 years old...)....should I try DI with the Fishman through the Numark?
Should I DI and mic it at the 12th or 15th with the SM48??
Should I try 2 mics..."Over the shoulder??"
Should I mic my 15 amp Fender Bullet Reverb??

I guess I should try em' all.....ya know?

You guys are really savy.....Bass line is weird....because....well...I do not play the bass that well....I am gonna lay down some synth strings on this....violin and cello I think....I was also hopin' to get some "for real" sax and drums on this.....
It is gonna be shorter too.....
I have always used Cakewalk Pro 9....now I have Cakewalk Guitar studio version 2.....I thought the timing was in seconds.....ya know?
I played to a count of 180........thought it was 3 minutes....
Turned out to be 7.....sheesh.....

Thanks guys for the comments and suggestions.....
I'll be back with this one...in a week or two....
see ya :D
