A few questions about the Soundcraft M4 and Folio series

Actually my first question has to do with the M series mixer's sample rate of the pdif digital out. It is printed to be at 24 bit 44.1 hz. Yet they recomment running into CDR recorders and DATS, most of which run at 16 bit 44.1 hz. Is this ok and I'm just not aware of it? Seems like if the bit output doesn't match the bit input on the recorder then you'd have some incapatability/noise/ect. Any clarification on that? Seems like a big mystery.
Also do those of you with experience of both the Folio/Notebook series and M-series hear and feel a night and day difference in preamp quality, eq, and so on. Thanks in advance for any help on these two mixers.
 
I don't have experience with both, I do won the M4 though which sounds great. Also, I don't think the folio advertises that it shares pre's with the M series so I doubt it would. Hope that helps.
