I couldn't get your link to work. Geocities is pretty flaky.

Listening to "Can't be Left Behind"

. . . and being a drummer. . .

yes thay are off key . . . mostly. Straining to much with not enough airflow <IMO> It's more of a not being able to stay in key after the attack. . . I think more volume will help.

Guitar is out of tune too I think or he hit some bad notes on "Untitled"

to download this file, geocities has a block on direct linking to files uploaded to their server. To get around this to dl the file, you have to go to the root folder (in this case www.geocities.com/en4cer2633/ ) and click "demos" and then select the mp3 to download.

I'm listening to the mp3 right now, and personally it sounds like the band has no clue what they're singing about. The whole thing is way off key and it shows it when you're listening to it. the guitar needs way more technicallity, it sounds way to bland. you should tell this person that they should start taking music lessons.

Kyle, you would be well suited to read up on basic music theory. There is a difference between Key's, Scales and Tuning but they are all inter-related. I can assure you that in power pop/punk and 95% of all western music that is important that all parts be in the same key and in tune.

There are many creative ways to play with keys and scales and if you don't learn the rules you will never learn how to creatively break them. For the most part you are worrying too much about this for your style of music. I know your friend seems to think he understands it but he really doesn't.

Playing out of tune or off-key in most styles of music makes the listener cringe. If that is the desired effect then so be it.

well i plan to read up on basic music theory since i have that class this year. as for the musicianship (which someone bad mouthed) not all music needs to be very technical, and i guess i should've reminded you that these are first rough takes of the songs. i was looking for more help on vocals than with the actual musicianship (since i can actually play decent rhythm guitar) as these are no more than first drafts. even on one of them you hear me at the end say "bad take" because yes i fucked up on the guitar. just thought i would clear everything up.

kyle,

The singing is off-key a lot. I think you have an idea of the melody you want but the chord you choose on some parts of it does not match the melody well. My suggestion is you pluck the melody line in you guitar while someone else plays the chord progression - it should make it clearer where things are off. Once you get the melody and chord progression down, play the melody on the guitar and match the notes with your singing as close as you can. Once you have that, you're ready to record again.
