A difficult decision . . . and a question

Well, I guess I'm horrible at communicating. I want to be able to go out and track, then come back and have my board/FX/etc. So the board would stay at the studio for remote sessions I'd just use the interface. Sorry. But thank you for all of the information.

The most fun I ever had in digital recording was when I had my first Cakewalk program. It only allowed 8 audio tracks. I made sub mixes and bounced them down to free up tracks. It required making decisions just like in the old days of 8 tracking in the studio. Unlimited tracks can lead to a kind of self indulgence of having too much of a good thing. I find that 24 tracks is still about all anyone should ever need. Remember the Beatles worked in 4 tracks!

Sorry for the thread revival....however...

What are your thoughts on the Tascam M2516?

I don't need complicated routing. I'm really mainly looking at this board for it's 16 ins and it's 8busses. Would this be a nice, warm sounding board?

I just bought a 2524 approximately 3 months ago. Yes its warm sounding. I could even describe it as dark sounding, but not in a negative way. Just not overly bright sounding. Very analog. It has good routing options and is inline meaning a 16 channel actually has 32 channels at mixdown. It only has 4 auxillaries so if your heavily into effects keep that in mind. But overall Im very happy with the purchase becaus I got it very reasonable. If the price is right its a great buy. Ive never used the midi muting so I cant comment on that aspect of it. The eq is ok but I was taught early on that exessive eq is a no no so Ive always tried to use as little as possible. But I admit its not an uglu sounding eq like on some mixers Ive owned. Its smooth by comparison to some of the newer mixers Ive tried. But I reinterate for the price you can get one for today its a GREAT buy. I also have not used the preamps yet as I have some other more boutique pres at my disposal.Contact me for any other questions on the 2524 2516.

Thank you so much! Yeah I've found several for really great prices. I'm thinking my rig is going to end up being 2x Presonus FP10 and a 2516. This will give me 16x16 i/o to the computer with an analog front end and analog summing. Pretty excited as I should have my rig up and running about 6 months! Thanks again Thrust.
