A different looking Tascam 424...pre mkI?

What am I looking at here...this is a Tascam 424 that doesn’t fit the mkI, mkII or mkIII mold...dark grey like the mkII, but totally different meter display than any 424 I’ve seen (LED rather than LCD), mechanical counter, selectable tape speed, more limited I/O and mixer features...external power supply...it’s...weird...

Well that’s not one of the discrepancies. The mkI was without XLR jacks...unbalanced high impedance only. Low impedance balanced XLR mic inputs didn’t show up until the mkII. It’s all the other stuff I mentioned that is wigging me out.

That makes sense...I’ve seen other Japan-only Teac/Tascam products.

I got say, the LED metering would be much better...I have a hard time seeing the LCD display meters.

I have the exact same Tascam. They turn army green after being in a 130 degree summer attic for several years. However, the electronic part is just as crappy as when I bought it new.
