A darker tune this time

Being that I CAN NOT play a guitar solo with any melodic elements at all I can only stand back and comment as a, a, a...bass player.
This is cool.
I'm learning through listening - Taking the Vai anthology slowly hoping to get the picture through familiarity & I've absorbed a face full of Trower of later (B.O.Sighs)- your guitar lines are quite tastey and there seems to be expression and emotion rather than pure speed/shreddery at their core.
The arrangements are very nice - some good patches you have too. David's right in that the usual "target audience" would probably demand more detail/texture/depth in the arrangements but the arrangement, as is, stands up well.
I'm not offended by the wet guitars - I really like them - reverb & delay are serious drugs for lead players and as a listener I enjoy the effect of the effect without getting caught up in the purity thing.
Adventurous, expansive, stretching you & me, electric guitars, drums & string things so all I need is, going back to my perspective for a mo, a little more bass.

Holy shit, Bob!
What an amazing piece! All those different moods:) How long did it take you to do this? Your guitar playing is simply delicious and I love the piano. If I try to be picky, I would say the kick needs to maybe come thru better (maybe make it click a little...) but, heck whatever it's great as it is. I'm speechless too:o. You are one gifted musician!:D:D:D

Cheers

I can't comment on the mix, because the headphones I'm using aren't great. But as for the song, like everyone has said it is pretty cool. I also agree with the ending. I felt like it was building up to something huge, then ended. This may be what you wanted, because it left me thinking I wanted more of the song.

I think the middle section can use some massaging to get the orchestra to sound more real. That for me is always a really long process because my ears get numb to the fake orchestra sound pretty quick.

Again, great song.

Wow...

A couple of things:

1. If I had to pick one word, it would be "grand." Quite a large scope of sounds on this...and they're all done very well. From whisper quiet to screaming loud. I really dig it (again). Excellent guitar playing (as usual). I agree with everyone else about the ending needing just a little bit more length.

2. Fireflight = goodness! They're probably my favorite band of the moment. You really should check them out. I do hear a few stylistic similarities in the section just after the piano intro. Their solos aren't near as intricate, but the rhythm/slow solo around :50 sounds kinda similar.

All in all, quite another great piece...keep it up!

And why is that?
(from back a few months ago about my stuff)
Sorry, but my response is: huh?
There's an audience for us all though, so good luck!

This is exactly how I feel about this song. I respect your effort but this hurts my soul. Not because it's poorly performed at all or poorly mixed at all. But because it feels wrong in my heart. I don't know how else to describe it. You're obviously incredibly talented, I just really hate this style of music with a fiery passion. You seem like really good guy and a hell of a poster but there's something about this kind of music that makes me want to stab myself in the ear.

Just for clarification: This style of music has always made me feel this way so I'm not judge of the quality of the song or of his intention. He did what sounds like a great job mixing but it's like my wife and her freak out every time she touches fake velvet or watches me touch fake velvet. I don't have that problem with velvet but I know how she feels. I made this point to illustrate the difference in approach between Whitestrat and myself, not to say he sucks. Because he doesn't.

Fair enough. That's a good explanation. And I can't possibly be offended, because as I'm sure you've already assumed, that's how I feel about your music. But I meant it when I said it a few months ago: "There's an audience for us all though, so good luck!"

Maybe I should have also said that the first most important audience we try to please is ourselves--does my music resonate with my vision, and does yours resonate with your vision? That's what is most important first, right?

Hey Strat. I actually listened about 5 days ago... just now getting around to posting a comment. Okay, so where's the melody from at the 4:00 time?? Sounds a little familiar.

Great playing. Guitar work is just tremendous. Really like it. What are you using for drums?

Lots of great comments already, nothing I can add.

Cheers,
