Hello Dear Pickers and Strummers,

Does anyone of you know about a capo which will let you bend strings. I would like to bend strings while using capo at same time. Most capos seem to let you bend, but as you bend, the string will stay in the bended moded, which means one string is permanently out of tune................

If no capo exists which will let us do this, than we should all collectively get in touch with the capo designers and let them design a capo which does let you bend your strings while staying in tune...............

Thank you so far for all your encouraging comments.............

Eddie

Eddie Eddie Eddie you dont bend strings when using a capo, as capos are ment for rythm playing if you want to bend a string and stay in key you remove the capo and alter the position on the fret board accordingly unfortunatly unless you have a double necked guitar and four arms then thats another story

Maybe you're not using Kyser or Shubb. I've never had a problem bending with these types of capos. I can do leads and rhythm with them. You've got to get the capo right up to the fret. It will lock in place.

As my luthier friend would say those shubb capos 'grip like a wallabys spincther' maybe you could try lighter strings.

the other option, which i think i'm going to go with myself, is the hipshot trilogy. it works with cam levers and allows you over 700 tunings on your guitar that stay. you can install it yourself and it doesn't modify the guitar's body in any way.

I'll concur about Shubb. I've had a quite a few of them in my day. And I bend the shit of the strings and never a prob.

Thank You, Thank You Guys for thinking along the lines, so here is a reply to all of you individually..............

Electric Lady Land:.............. Oh yes man I agree when playing with a Capo you play rhythm and stick to that. When I did mention my "capo- problem" I play in acoustic-solo-style mode, so I do rhythm, chords, melodies and basslines at same time, and I can't help wanting to bend a string from time to time, but instead of using the bend you can also go up to the fret where you bend into, and this is what I tend to do, however effect if different eh? Does not sound the same. But I agree, I may look for sth. here which is a little difficult to do with a capo.

In The Fire :........... Oh yes man, I do use a Shupp, and they are good, but bending?..........string will go up and stick into the rubber until you release the capo.......... I use the capo ANYwhere [yes even beyound 12th fret, which some of you may find bizarre.....] but for this one I capooed it at the 5th fret and it does go out of tune when you bend. Maybe my strings as some of you say.....So what gauge did I use here? I think 12s [use different ones from time to time] but yes they may be too heavy for when you do want to bend...........

Paddyponchero : Think you mentioned similar remarks as In The Fire.

Steelpetals: Hipshot which can give you over 700 tunings.............Hmmm sounds very nice, but I think for time being I may have enough with just standard tuning and using the capo for getting different sounds. Hey this does not mean I do not dig the idea. Think it really sounds great, but for time being...........By the way there are effect-units which will do this electronically for you, but that is a different subject altogehter, nice idea though.............and what about the TransTrem, know about them? But again, these are prob. more tools for the electric rather than the acoustic gtr. [of course I do dig eclectric as well, just as much as we all do on this forum, but again, different thing altogether]

JR#97............................So you can bend with the Shubb?, love to hear how you do this, Am I using heavier gauges as you or..............sounds interesting.........When you DO use CAPO and BENDING at SAME TIME, is this done on acoustic gtr. or mainly eclectr.? Again do not think this should make much difference, string gauge maybe but let us see what you or others have got to say,

Love to hear from you all again,

Eddie

Just a little note again to some of you,

After having heard that some of you are able to bend while using a capo I got curious and started to experiment [most of the time the best way to discover what works or not...........]

So I used capo first on first fret, started playing while bending a lot, then went up with capo a fret at the time, just to see where the point was where it does get a little out of tune. Well? In standard-tuning, using 12s on an acoustic, it was comfortable up to sixth fret, from there onwards the first string sometimes needs a little help being pushed back into tune [Heh I can live with that!]

When you downtune all strings a whole step the tuning "problems" seem to be less obvious, so I think using lighter strings things will also make up for an improvement.

With all of this I have to say that you need to look at you playing-style, I tend to play hard, which does not always help for keeping strings in tune while using the cape [I can even see the capo moving while I bend the stings..........how cool that is!........] Also the type of neck may have its impact on the capo and tuning, so some slim, electric necks may hold tuning better, compared to some beefier acoustic necks. But when you think about all of that, you can think of a way to get around it, so it is all not that much of a problem, after all gtr. is a very adaptable instrument which will lent itself to almost any playing technique.

So far the "bending and tuning saga" while using capo. Any more comments on this?

Eddie

Again, I say: If you aren't already, make certain that the capo is almost on top of the fret and tighten it down. It should be pretty stable. If you're bending beyond a step and a half with 12's in standard tuning, you should probably forget about it.
