A/B / Phasing?

Experimenting with stereo mic placement, I haven't had good luck with most of the recommended techniques. The lower bout usually sounds good, but placement at the bridge or over the shoulder (or similar placements) never sounds as articulate. Soloing that channel kind of reminds me of soloing a certain band of frequencies within a multiband compressor...you only get a small bite of the total sound.
To use the 3 to 1 rule, the mics have to be placed far enough away from the source that you no longer enjoy the advantages of close micing (if you like the sound of close micing).
Coinicident pairs (or similar) seem to capture the sound at different resonances and frequencies. When soloed, the sounds are so different...similar to the example above.
So, I've settled on the A/B technique for a signal that is equally pleasing in both channels. A KM184 at the lower bout and a KSM32 at about the 10th fret. Playback is beautiful, spacious, and equally articulate on both sides. It's a dream come true! Of course, there is a drawback...phasing issues.
Now, this is prompting me to question the validity of dealing with the phasing issues. It seems that the only time this would be a problem would be in mono playback. But, when's the last time you heard anything in mono? Cheap car radios receive in stereo. Cheap boom boxes playback in stereo. You will not find a commercially available cd or cassette tape in mono.
Am I missing something here? Is there any reason to be concerned about phasing issues?
