A guy sent me an e-mail having this problem. I'm sure it's something simple I'm not getting. I tried to recreate his steps and I still had my monitors. Anybody no the answer here?

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A788 AND I AM HAVING FITS WITH RECORDING ON TRACK 6.WHEN I TURN THE MACHINE ON AND CREATE A SONG TRACKS 5AND6 ARE LINKED SO I UNLINK THEM AND AT THE SAME TIME I HAVE TO SET ALL OF THE PAN SETTINGS TO CENTER.I BASICALLY SET THE TRACK LIKE ALL THE OTHER TRACKS.

WHEN I GO TO RECORD I ONLY HEAR WHAT I HAVE RECORDED IN THE HEAD PHONES AND NOT IN THE MONITOR SPEAKERS.

SO I HAVE TO RESET THE PAN IN THE CUE TRACK TO HEAR FROM THE SPEAKERS.WHAT I DONT GET IS THAT WHY DOESNT THE CHANGES I MAKE STAY.WHEN I POWER DOWN OR CREATE A NEW SONG TRACK 6 IS BACK TO BEING LINKED TO 5 AND THE PANS ARE ALL HARD LEFT AND HARD RIGHT.

Not sure if I understand the question but if you want to hear your previously recorded tracks in the monitors assign the tracks (press 'track' - 'select' 1,2, etc.) and that pulls it out of the cue mix. Once a track is assigned the pan changes you make will stay, I'm not so sure if they do in cue. When you start a new song you have to repeat unlinking 5 and 6 among other things.

I think Tascam's logic was that 5 and 6 were to handle the aux inputs and take stuff from a mixer or CD and if that were the case it would make sense to have things panned hard left and right and be linked so that you only needed the one control. For me though it's a redundant pain in the ass.
