Ola.....we all know the pre's suck in this unit. If i go out and spend $2000 on a sweet mic pre then run the signal out of the mic pre into the vs880 won't I still end up with the same old crappy signal?

It'll probably sound better, but no matter what equipment you run into it, you are always gonna have that compression in the 880, even in the highest quality mode I could always still hear it on quiet tracks. I stopped using mine completely after using the Delta 1010 for a few days. The 1010 ain't perfect, but it cleared up a lot of the crap I could always hear in the 880 tracks.

Its time to upgrade......I'll never sell my 880. Its sooo portable, and I know it like the back of my hand.
