I'm looking for a nice sounding 8 channel pre that has 8 ins 8 outs. Preferably xlr to xlr but i could also like xlr to 1/4 or 1/4 to xlr.

I'm going to be using this for drums primarily and I want it to add that nice tone to my drums. I need to make my drums sound as professional as possible.

I'm looking to spen anywhere from $0-$500/600? I'm probably gona find a used one of whatever it may be, i'm low on money so i'm hoping to find a good deal on a nice 5/600 $ pre

Mackie Onyx 800R.... also has ADAT out.

i'd like to get that but not in the budget :-\ If iwas spending a grand that probably would be what I'd get... either that or like 2 different 4 channel pre's or something. mix/match

that pr8e how good is that? That on is honestly catching my eye a lot. I'm just afraid it's going to be a total waste of money... Hows the nosie level and just overall sound of it?

for that price range, just get 4 dmp3's.
nothing in your budget is really going to be any better then that.

(some the same maybe)

This would be a better option than the SM Pro Audio pres.

The SM Pro PR8e is ok but definitely isn't as quite or as good as the DMP3. I've heard the Black Lion mod will improve them but I don't know how they would compare to the DMP3?

I'm looking at the Focusrite Octopre myself. It's about 800, which is a little above what you're looking for, but could be less if you find it used. It has pretty high quality pre-amps (considering the market of the product) and for an extra 200 you can slap an ADAT out card in it. Oh ya, and it has compression built in on each channel, which is really good to have for drums.
