I'd never buy those particular pickups for the very reason Light recomends them - EVERYONE USES THEM.

Well, everybody uses the JB, but the others (particularly the Pearly Gates, which is more or less a Custom Shop pickup) is not actually all that common. I recommend it because it is my personal favorite pickup in the bridge position. It is a really killer pickup.

I don't suppose anyone has a link

to something using a Pearly Gates?

And Light, if that's your favorite bridge p/u, what's your favorite neck p/u?

Don't forget, this is specifiaclly for old classic bluesy southern rock.

I want something that can get a little bite if you try, but for the most part isn't excessively bright.

And thanks for all the help here, guys. :)

pearly gates

if you want to hear the pearly gates in action ............ throw some zz top in your cd player

You can hear samples on the Seymour Duncan site. Listen to the Pearly Gates sample and then listen to the JB sample. The Pearly Gates sounds more distorted and a little muddy and the JB sounds strong and clear IMO. With a JB in the bridge and a 59 in the neck you can play any type of rock but that's just my personal preference.

Personally, my favorite combination of pickups is the Pearly Gates in the bridge with an Alnico II in the neck. That is for a pretty much purely rock guitar. Not suitable for a great deal of diversity, and certainly not a good setup for Jazz. Scottgman, who post around here sometimes, has also tried them and liked them a lot.

I've always loved the look of those Ibanez Artist guitars, they always appealed to me more that an SG-how long have they been out of production anyway?

Now see, I don't think of classic southern rock tone when I think of Morse.

If you had ever heard him with the Dixie Dregs, he threw that in as well as dozens of other styles..

I've only heard him with the Dregs

adn what I heard isn't what I'd call southern rock. It was more like Vai plays Kansas in the style of Mahavishnu Orchestra while on acid. Definitely not my cup of tea.

Maybe I should go back and revisit it. Make a recommendation.
