Does anyone know a place where I can get a short 7 pin XLR cable, the kind that connects tube condensers to the power supplies? It's for a Groove Tubes GT66 in particular, but I believe they are standard. My mic came with an insanely long cable and I'm trying to tame the spagetti my bedroom studio.
Thanks
Mike

I guess cutting and soldering the cable yourself or with help isn't a good option. I can see the value in having a short tube mic cable.

You could try calling Markertek and have them make the cable for you, but it won't be cheap. A pro audio store in your area would probably do this for you, too, even just making yours shorter.

MXL V69 Mogami Edition microphones come with a short (can't be more than twelve feet) Mogami 3172 cable with Neutrik ends. In my experience, it sounded significantly better than the stock cable in my Nady mic package. Maybe you can find a V69 owner and buy/trade for his cable.

Good luck.

Huh? I own one and I'd be more likely to donate an organ than give that cable up.

I've actually been looking to get one of these mics. Any advice one way or the other?

Otherwise, it looks like I'm stuck with the 25'+ footer. I'm pretty good with a soldering iron, but don't know if I'd trust myself to get all the wires to the right pins. Knowing my luck, I'd flip power and GND and let all the magic smoke out of my baby.

I really like this mic. It's my first tube mic, and I got it on the recommendations of a few people on this board, including Harvey Gerst. The first time I used it (to record male rock vocals) I was very impressed.
I'm also on a budget, so I bought from AMS online and used their EZ payment plan. It worked out to 3 monthly payments of $99.

Just coil it neatly at the base of the mic stand, pull out what you need to get where it's going, and use a cable tie or twisty around the unused coils.

I know that the Oktava tube mics come with insanely SHORT cables. Maybe someone will be willing to trade on that front?

I think I'm going to hang on to the 25' for when I record with my band. It's surprising there's no one selling these. Thanks for all the replies.
