I'm looking to record our drummer decently. I can only support up to 5 mics, becuase one of the inputs in my 6 track mixer is broken, but 6 piece mics are also welcome, cuz i'm sure i could fix the mixer.

So what are your reccomendations for some good drum mics. I'd like them in one of those packs if possible. I'd like to stay under $300. Thanks! I'll search this topic also.

well.. for 300.. nady has some mic packages, i used to have one for about 200.. it wasnt all that bad i guess.. i nkow there are other brands that have better ones... maybe audix.. take a look on musicians friend. good luck.

You could go w/ a drum package.....or you could go w/ some budget "workhorses"

2 SP B1's...OH's

1 SM57 on snare

maybe another 57 on kick...

B1's and 57's are around 80 bucks each....give or take a couple...

the good thing about going this route is that your getting some mics that are very versatile in the studio...not only on drums like a "drum" package...

Maybe you could get a cheap kick mic instead of another 57...

For about $100 more, you could get a pair of MXL 603s for overheads (I'd suggest Oktava 012s, but it looks like those are going to be tough to get unless you go with Sound Room matched pairs), your choice of SM57 or Sennheiser e835 for snare (I've read that some people prefer the Senn.), and an Audio Technica ATM25 for the kick. You should be able to get all of these for somewhere in the neighborhood of $400. Its definitely a viable beginner set up. I know this, because it works for me (the 012s, SM57, and ATM25, that is).
