i have the opportunity tog et brand new ones for 50 bucks. the audigy or creative arts one u know which one im talking about the one everyone uses for gaming. 5 little speakrs and a sub. will this help me in recording? and if yes, how would i set it up? and where would i place the sub? thanks in advance

Well, if you're into games and such, they'll be great.

But for mixing? No no no.... ;)

oh ok. cuz i saw something like that on musiciansfriend so i thought this could act as a cheaper version to it

Come on man.......!!!!!!!, if we can use those $50 speakers for mixing, why would everyone in this forum talk about the so called "Studio Monitors" I bet a headphone would be much better than those speakers to mix with. :)

i throw my 2 cents in. if your mixing to stereo? yeah, worthless. but if you wanna try 5.1 mixing, it might be worth it to mess around. i attended a 5.1 demo session and listing to a mix of bohemian rapshody blew me away. you never know. the fun could be worth the 50 bucks

They might be worth getting as a reference set of monitors to see how your stereo mix would work in 5.1.

Personally, I wouldn't use them as a primary set.

I have a set of Klipsh (sp?) 5.1 that I use for playing around in 5.1. I don;t really know what I'm doing mixing 5.1 of course, but they're also great for gaming :)

how do you approach the concept of 5.1 mixing? what are you actually doing? i'm sure there's gotta be some sort of program or something, i can't see how i could mix in 5.1 with PT..

It's supported in both applications I use (Sonar, Cubase).
