I'm planning on buying surround monitors like the LX4 package from m-audio or something and have some questions about hooking it up.. I currently have a pair of monitors that I still plan on using for recording music in stereo but my question is what is the best way to hook both sets of speakers into my computer for recording in stereo and surround and for watching DVDs while still being able to use an external DVD playing with surround capabilities(with the computer off)?
Since the "monitor outs" on my mixer will be used for monitoring and recording in stereo, I'm guessing I'll have to use 6 direct outs on the mixer to go into the lx4 and choose which outs I'll be using in the sound card software, right?
Like: Soundcard outs 1-6 -> Mixer In 1-6 -> Mixer Out 1-6 -> lx4 In 1-6
Or... does that mean that I won't be able to use the monitor outs on my mixer anymore and I'll have to use a different pair of outs on my mixer for stereo? I'm really confused about all this......!!!
But for hooking in an external dvd player would a cable that splits into two connectors be okay? Like a dual cable or whatever or is that a really bad idea? http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--HOSCMP15 Not exactly like that of course...
Sorry if this post is confusing! I'm not sure exactly what I need to be doing in the first place though.. Thanks for any help on this.
