And there's another good reason to go with Pro Tools. Not that I'm advocating Pro Tools at all but if your going to doing a lot of plugs that off CPU and on DSP horsepower would only help a lot.

You run into the same problem with pro tools. you can only run half the plus at twice the sample rate. You are right, it doesn't bog down the computer, but there is only so much DSP to go around.

Kinda late to the party But to get what you need is a cubase setup and a second computer running system link with all your plugs.

Or FX Teleport another computer and any DAW program that supports VST (be it native or with the use of a wrapper ).
DirectX plugs can also be teleported with the use of something like the FFX16 Rack .
