What should i get?? I've got my eye on a Tascam 788. they go for around 4 bills on eBay. i want atleast 4 tracks (the more the better), 16 or 24-bit audio. USB to PC is a bonus. looks like the tascam is the best value for the money. even at fulll retail, it's got lots of great features.

anyone have any other suggestions????

TIA

I'm partial to my multitracker's sound; it's an AKAI DPS16 that should be available for $ 400 - $800. It will record ten simultaneous tracks at 24 bits / 48 kHz sampling rate (if you use all the analog tracks and the two digital inputs simultaneously). Move the sampling rate to 96 mHz and all the resources get cut in half. 48 kHz is a nice balance between sound and utility that way. It's a sixteen track unit with pretty nice onboard effects. Four analog aux outputs, a pair of mains, a pair of monitors, headphone out and a pair of S/PDIF digital outputs. There's also MIDI in and out, but no USB or firewire connectivity; a bit too old. The only downside is the lack of USB and the fan is a bit loud.

Cheap and powerful. Mine is used as a mobile recorder; trucked all over the place and has never crashed. I love it.
