4/8 bus?

ok, newbie question

whats the difference between 4 bus and 8 bus? what the hell is a bus? if i just want something for recording with the ins/outs on each channel..?

The bus allows you to route one or more channels to a specific location. It also allows for submixing and a lot of other features.

If you would like a lot of detail on the buses, download one of the Mackie users manuals from their website.

Part 3 has a description of the busses and it will give you a lot of uses.

thanks that helps. i THINK i kind of understand it, but...

Either a 4 or 8 bus, each still has a direct out, correct? and why do boards particularly for "live" seem to usually only have 4 busses, and for recording, 8??

As far as I know, there is no direct correlation between direct ins/outs and how many (if any) busses a console has.
