Wow!

Those sellers are dreaming! :D

It's usually far more reliable to search the sold listings to see what units actually ended up selling for.

tascam 388 | eBay

$500 and up seems to be the actual selling range of recent sales.

Prepal shows an average of $453 and that's based on the last 200 units sold on ebay.

Average used prices for Tascam /// PrePal

Cheers! :)

^^^ Exactly! They can ask a million bucks for them, but they arent going to get it. Less than 500 is about right.

In the L.A. area they are going for around $900 on craigslist etc, but yea those sellers are dreaming...

I sold mine a couple years ago for $900, but that was fully refurbished, recapped and calibrated, and included a remote and some LPR35.

I've seen a couple go in my area for $350 which I think is about right. Then some joker will ask $1000 for one...

$350 in good shape and fully functional? That would be a steal in my book.

Seems very high priced for units that don't have potted plants in the photos with them.

Honestly...I think $1000 for a really nice shape and fully checked out 388 would be worth it,TOPS.Especially if someone REALLY wanted it.
And alot of people do....

That's what I thought they were typically going for these days anyway, which when I got mine for $450 in pretty much immaculate condition, i was super psyched because I knew I was stealing it. Everything is going up in price...

Yes, I hate that I missed the heyday of buying tape recorders. Ever since indie got popular, the whole hipster movement, and then the Black Keys, White Stripes, etc. showed up, they've skyrocketed again ... relatively speaking. Recording all analog (or I should say putting together a full analog system) is not cheap these days at all --- especially when you factor in all the outboard gear that you have to provide that would normally be accessible via plugs.

You are right, it isnt cheap even if you find bargains. My analog studio in my home is well over a million dollars, in original MSRP prices. Im not into it for anywhere near that but it still adds up fast. Just cabling which no one really thinks about get expensive fast, especially as you hit 24 tracks or more. And having 24 discrete compressors paired with 24 gates PLUS all the global processing, well it gets daunting to say the least.

Ha. Thanks from ebay, right? I always wondered about that. The guy has everything but it's pricey.
Yea I think for the 388 whats really important and what should determine the price difference between $350 and $1000 is the condition. They are not cheap to repair....and if the head goes, game over.

Good grief man, not counting my musical instruments I have maybe $700.00 invested. But then I only have four tracks.

The Flower Pot Guy 9guitar has single handedly brought up the prices of vintage Tascam and other gear. I genuinely from the heart hate and despise that guy, but the people who buy from him are just as worthy of disdain.

What people normally do is check to see what items are listed for, when they have a similar item to list. So now you see people referencing his prices and they think they’re giving you a great deal by listing something like a Tascam M-108 mixer for $300.00 because 9guitar has them listed for $550.00. The current street price for an M-108 in excellent condition is more like $150.00 – $175.00 and can be had for even less.

He’s a smart guy (maybe a girl to be that smart) and he’s done this with calculated purpose to bring other seller’s prices up. I’ve even considered the possibility that this is eBay itself setting up accounts to inflate prices and it could be happening with other sellers (eBay agents) and other items in other categories that aren’t on my radar.

Anyway, $500.00 - $600.00 is about right for a Tascam 388 because they're going to need work and considerable investment in time and parts, unless they've already been refurbished by a knowledgeable owner/seller like Cory.

You try to ask flower guy a question, and he blacklists you so you can't ever do it again. At least, that's what he did to me.

Although ... I think my question was probably something like "What the fuck are you thinking?" because it was before I knew his game.

The thing that blows me away is that, if you look at his feedback, he actually sells shit for that much! It's not just that he's listing them; people are actually buying that shit! (Unless the feedback is rigged or something)

We need to blacklist eBay seller 9guitar on every music forum we're a member. Smart buyers google eBay seller names and don't just rely on eBay feedback. Yeah, if it is eBay itself doing this they could rig sales and feedback. But even if its just some guy who got a bright idea there is some psychology at work here. Some people feel they're getting a better product if they pay more for it. The joke is on the buyer though. If you read the fine print on 9guitar listings his products aren't in any better condition, nor are they tested any more thoroughly than any other seller does. He's not a knowledgeable seller when it comes to the items he sells. People are just psyched out because they imagine he must know what he's doing and has better condition items. Plus he can afford to bend over backwards to avoid negative feedback.

I didn't mean to pull this thread off the 388 topic, but I believe it is relevant because 9guitar is the reason asking prices for the 388 and other Tascam items have gone up so much on eBay, and likely spills into Craigslist.

Anyway, everyone who cares needs to mention his eBay name and his eBay game on every music forum on the web. I contacted him as well months ago, and told him his asking prices are the source of some humor on several music/recording forums. He may have blocked me too, but I don't know because I haven't tried contacting him again. He needs to brought down so we can get back to normalcy on eBay. He is the enemy to every collector of vintage music gear.

Yeah....I saw an old Tascam Mb-1 line mixer on my local online classifed. The guy listed it for about $60 which seems legit I guess.
Then a week later he upped the price to $200.Stating in his ad that they go for $250 plus $50 shipping on ebay. The first thing that came to my mind was flower pot guy. I looked up that model on ebay and sure enough,he got the pricing from flower dudes listing. I felt like messaging this guy and telling him, this is not the way it's done. But I didn't. Then a week or so later he dropped the price back down to the original $60 he was aking.
Im pretty sure alot of people have based their pricing on this Bastards listings.

Yup, he currently has an M-1B listed at $297.00, which is according to him a savings of $52.50 from his original $350.00 asking price. LOL

Tascam M 1B 8 Channel Line Mixer Vintage Rack | eBay

The last M-1B I bought a few years ago on eBay cost me $35.00 plus low shipping, and was in perfect condition inside and out... looks better than what 9guitar has listed there. That was on the low side and $50.00 - $75.00 is reasonable, maybe even $100.00. It's a great line mixer, but not for $300.00.

Problem is he's buying up stuff on eBay for a song, so sooner or later if we don't stop him he'll have it all.
