388 track one not working

hi.
i have been having a problem with my tascam 388. track 1 will not record. i have noticed that when the channel is panned all the way to the left, there is no sound. when i use other channels, the meter will pick up a signal on channel 1. I cant record with track one because no sound goes on the left side and i cant assign track one. if any one knows why the hard left wont work on channel one, and possibly knows how to fix it, please let me know.

You mentioned almost everything except if you were arming the track by pressing down the square button to assign the sound inputted to the #1 buss.

Also check the insert connection point to ensure that there is not a defective cable inserted, feeding an effect or compressor in that insert point.

If all those are verified and there is still a problem, then there might be a dirty switch which could be cleaned with a good contact cleaner. Caig Labs makes some excellent products to address such problems.

Failing a dirty switch, there may be a faulty component on a circuit board which a qualified technician would have to trouble shoot in shop.

As for a decent small monitor, Tanoy makes some excellent book-self products such as the Reveal that are very accurate and not too pricey. Tascam's UK website has info on the speakers.

im going to clean the whole thing soon.
i did forget to mention that i did press the track one assign button.
if it is still messed up i can have my ex-uncle who is an electrician take a look at it.
i dont know where to go to have it fixed around here -west chester pa-(you know where jack ass is from)
or how much it would cost.
