388/fuse question

388 - no power to transport side

The fuse in the #3 position was blown on the 388 I picked up recently.
EDIT: I replaced it, hoping that was the cause of the tape/transport side not getting any juice. It wasnt.
Suggestions?
I'm not the most mechanically/engineering savvy person out there.

Yes, you're fine. There are different approaches to fuse design, but they work the same way if rated the same. Position F3 is SLOWBLOW 3A 250 V. Any type that meets this description will work.

Fuses are cheap....replace them all since it is not always entirely obvious when one is blown.

Next step is marking sure all internal cards are seated and plugs are in.


Is it just the transport with no power? How do you know it has no power?

OK. Replaced all the 3A250V fuses. No dice. The #1 fuse looks ok, but I'll replace that tomorrow.
In the meantime -
I have loaded a tape, but get nothing from any of the controls. The counter does not display/illuminate.
The Dolby 1-4, 5-6 buttons do light green when depressed.
The vari/fix/ext knob is frozen on 'fix', so I cant tell if the vari light would illuminate red when selected.
All of the other internal parts seem to be secure - cards seated, no loose plugs, etc.
I guess the next step is to replace the 4A fuse and go from there...

LOL yeah, that's what I meant to say if the original question hadn't changed after I answered it. Oh well, ndecarmine is new and doesn't know not to do that after one of us has gone to the trouble of answering. It's ok... he/she will get the hang of it.

ahh, sorry dude.
so yes, my original ? had to do w/ fuses & values, which was more than answered.
i subsequently went back and replaced the 4a fuse, but i'm still getting the same result from my post just prior to this one. no dice.
looking around inside this thing, nothing's jumping out at me as far as being loose, unseated, disconnected, etc. then again, this i my first time really looking inside this thing, so i could be staring at the problem and never know.
advice? is it repair shop time?
