About a year ago, my 388 started making a vibrating noise (similar to a washing machine on spin cycle) whenever the right tension roller (and thus the capstan motor/belt) was engaged. I took the machine to Rance Electronics in Oakland, where the machine was serviced for some other problems...a part was needed for I believe the reel motor, which Rance couldn't get immediately...so he oiled something. Which worked great except I don't know anything about motors and I can't get ahold of Rance. Maybe the bearings? anyone have any insight?
Other thing is, when I tilt the machine upright, the noise goes away. It's probably not a good idea for the machine to run this way, and if anyone could reinforce that notion for me I'd appreciate it.
