i am having trouble with my compressor. when i hook it up and turn it on i have no lights. am i supposed to have lights? even when i test mics i get no lights.\

can i only plug the equalizer into channel inserts? i can not get sound into both mains when i plug it into the main inserts. is that normal? the eq has an input and output that are balanced. i am confused.

i feel like i am doing somthing wrong.

Do you even get a power light on the 3630 when you turn it on?? At the very least you shoudl have a power light.

I am not sure, but I dont think you can use balanced (TRS) cables in an insert jack.

You said you were going to get actual "Insert" cables (aka "Send & Return" cables)......did you get them??

You should be able to route the signal any way you want with an insert. I have had chains where the insert send goes to a de-esser, then de-esser out to an EQ, then EQ out to a compressor, then compressor out to a maximizer, then maximizer out gets the return (back to the insert). The insert jack doesn't know and doesn't care what or how many devices are on the chain, as long as you have everything connected correctly and you are using a real "Insert" cable.

Wish I could see a photo of your setup or something....... tough to diagnose without hands on.....

At the very least, the 2 little lights under each "Threshold" button for the gates, should always be lit. If the gate is active, it will be a red light, and if it's inactive, it will be green.
