hi, I'm trying to record a song, but when it gets to the chorus that is distorted, it just doesn't seem to stand out enough. I can't turn it up because then you cant hear the drums, is there anything I can do to get this part more in your face and keep it from masking the drums? , I'm using a Tascam 788, and I am running the guitar direct, and am using the effects procceser that is on the 788 for the distortion. It just doesn't seem to sound like it should, its not heavy enough, but its already too loud to put louder without masking everything else... has anyone else ever had a problem like this?
thanx

you can use EQ to keep it off the drums, or just turn down the verse parts or thin out the verse arrangement to make the chorus part apear bigger.....

Try this

When the chorus kicks in, run the distorted guitars in stereo. Record the guitar part once and pan it hard left. THEN... record it again and pan it hard right. You get a great stereo spread, and walls of guitars. It doesn't have to be super loud to be heard, and it gets out of the way of the stuff panned in the center, like voc's, drums and bass. Don't go overboard on the guitar's distortion...too little is alwasy better than too much when it comes to recording.
If you try this and still have problems with the guitars stomping on everything, then your problem is likely EQ related, as Gidge speculated.
An interesting recording is all about contrast! Loud to soft...narrow to wide...thin to fat. That contrast is what makes a song POP, from a production point of view.
