OK, so my mate is heading to the US next week & owes me some $$$, so he is buying me $300 (US) worth of mics. I record demos at home (accoustic/rock/metal) and have the following so far:
SM57x2
SM58x1
Shure BG 4.1 x2 (use for overheads)
Audix D6 x1
Rode NT1-A x1
And some cheap samson clip ons for the toms.

Pre's: 2 x Studio Projects VTB-1 and cheap mixer pre's (Alto) going into a delta 1010lt. This will be replaced with a Presonus firestudio or something similar soon.

I mainly want to replace the Samson mics I currently use on the toms, was just going to get some more sm57's unless anyone else has some suggestions?

For tom mics you can certainly get more sm57s, but I prefer the EV ND308 series or ND4** series.
They look like an egg sitting a cradle, and sound great.
You can get them used for about $75-80 each.
for a little more my favorite tom (and acoustic guitar) mics are the CAD E-100 but even used they will cost you $100-$150 each.

Yes certianly more 57s but you can get the Sennheiser e604 3pack clip on drum microphones for just about $300. USD!!

Thanks All. Going to stretch my budget & get the e604 3 pack and a Cascade Fathead. Then maybe i'll get my NT1A modded :P (bit expensive though with shipping to & from Australia)
