How do you guys record vocals. This is a question especially directed to people with a very limited # of tracks 4-8, My band has been using 1 track guitar 1 track bass 1 track drums and now its time to do all the vocals (3 dif. people) on our last track. Should I record them all at the sametime onto track 4 or bounce the bass guitar and guitar onto one track and use 1 track for lead vocals and another for backgrounds. What to do what to do?

you could position everyone around an omni and hope for the best

Is it a cassette or digital 4-track?

If it is digital, then I would suggest bouncing a submix on your instruments to something like a hi-fi stereo vcr and then re-recording that on to tracks 1 and 2. This will free up 2 extra tracks for you for two of your singers.

Repeat the the process again with a submix of the instruments and the 2 singers. Now add another vocalist, and you're done.

If it's cassette, then I would say the idea of putting everyone together around the omni would be your best bet.

Alright thanks, What do you think about setting up a mic for each person running them all through the mixer and then to the cassette on 1 track?
