the user manual for the 2488 is very vauge how do you mix down thanks :D

You first have to Set the OUT point at the position where you want the pre-mastered material (your song) to stop. Fast forward to the end of your song then press the shift key and the end key (in your transport control area).
Next go to to your Audio CD Menu. On the AUDIO CD menu, move the cursor to PRE MASTER and press ENTER. The screen changes to the home screen, but with the word MASTERING at the top left of the screen. Check page 59 of the manual for more information. At the final mastering stage, it is possible to add equalization and dynamics through the stereo bus.

EQ
Like the ordinary channels, the stereo bus has three band equalization, with sweep able center frequencies, and variable Q for the midrange.
To access this:
1 Press the STEREO key.
2 Press the EQ key:
3 Use the cursor keys and wheel to select and
adjust the EQ parameters for the stereo bus.

Stereo Dynamics Processor
The stereo bus has a stereo dynamics processor (compressor or expander) available.
1 Press and hold the SHIFT key.
2 Press the STEREO key.
3 Use the cursor keys and wheel to select and adjust the parameters for the effect. Note that the last parameter is an on/off switch. When set to OFF,
the dynamics processor is bypassed.

Dynamics Library
From the screen, pressing ENTER brings up the stereo dynamics library screen.
Use the left and right keys to select the PRESET or USER libraries, or to SAVE the current setting.Use the wheel to select library entries and press ENTER to load the entry. If you save a setting, you can add a title to the current stereo dynamics settings and press ENTER to save it as a user library effect.

Remember recording is the easy part Mastering is a art.
Good Luck

:D Yo Flipper:

I'll just add a small bit to Doubles' great information.

I don't use the 2488 but the Yam 2816 operates in a similar fashion.

When you mixdown, you are putting your tracks into two tracks, stereo. When you record the stereo track eventually to be CD, you can erase it and do it over and reset your balances, reverb, etc. Once you have the stereo mix where you like it, you have to "save" that mix. Anyways, I have to save it so it comes up on the song list as a mix ready to burn to CD. I don't know if you have to do this with your Tascam.

Then, when you want to burn a CD, you call up the songs you have mixed or it is a CD stereo song list. Then, just follow the CD prompts for your box. I found the CD burning part of my manual to be very easy to follow--not all of the manual is that simple.

Good luck.
Green Hornet :D :) :D
