Does anyone have any problems with the 2488's display brightness? I've seen one unit and the display was very hard to read no matter how you adjusted the display with the contrast dial

Tascam engineers made a monumental error with the "smallness" of their viewing screen. Lots of folks over 35 like to record and "see" the screen.
I think Tascam used an engineer from Alesis, the guy who put the screwy screen on their keyboards -- slanted, and angled, and if you did not have your head in the right light, you could not seen the screen. Crappy stuff. I sold my Alesis keyboard about 3 months after I got it because of the pisspoor screen on it.
Hey Green,
Agree with you. That screen (at least the one I saw) was so dim that it might be the determining factor not to buy the unit unless I was looking at a defective one OR Tascam is coming-out with a brighter screen. Thanks for the reply

I have to agree, though it's twice as big, it's dimmer than the 788's screen and I need to switch out glasses to read it. Also the color is greener and at least to my eyes it blends in with black images I'm trying to read too much.
Though I've gotten used to it, it's pretty noticable when working with the two machines together.
I agree, the screen sucks. I have to switch eye glasses to destinguish eights (8) from zeros (O). It is not the size of the screen as so much the contrast control and colors they chose. But it is still the best deal out there, by a mile or a kilometer if you're canadian.
There's a guy in the tascam forum that's going to switch out the element or whatever it is that lights these displays and we'll see what happens.
On another front, someone suggested a magnifying glass. I tried a little square one I had here and it really makes a difference, so right now I'm looking for a 4" square glass and there's enough room below the display for one of those little metal holder thingys (I use 'em for cd's on gigs) that you can get from an office supply store.
