I have just purchased a 2488 and am a having a problem with the compressor. Example; I am used the Ratio setting as 2:1 or 4:1 but this compressor only gives you 1 to 100. Also does anybody know how to set the compressor for Soft Knee or Hard Knee. Any help any one could offer would be a big help. Does anyone have any favorite settings for Drums or Bass Guitar they would like to share?

Yeah that's kind of lame. I figure 50 is the same as 2:1.

Yo Boil and Trouble Double Double:]

I use an RNC and do compression for certain tracks as I record. For the $$, I find the RNC to be a neat piece of gear.

I use the Yam 2816 and don't think much of its dynamics/compression menu.

You might try an outboard compressor and see what happens. The RNC has a "nice compressor" button and I use that and adjust the gain knob to fit the track.

It snowed in Michigan today. Happy Spring.

Yo Green one,

It's 102 here today, I'll be in the pool in an hour or so.

Anyway, I've had pretty good results so far with the onboard stuff on the 2488 and operating under the principle (which is flawed) that less is better, I'm not using outboard pres or compression and just plugging mics in direct. I did a jazz trio that way in another part of the house a week ago and it really made things a lot easier without all the equipment and wires and such......and a lot less can go wrong. Overall there's enough pad volume and more if you raise the virtual fader.

Still, you're going to have more control with outboard gear.

Yo Phil:

I just can't believe I saw snow falling in Grand Rapids, Michigan this day. YUK.

I guess the fun of recording is the GREAT size of "variables" which exist and each engineer's ear"sight."

I envy your hot weather. I've been in California several times visiting a friend. Never ran into the heat wave you guys are having.

Today, Grand Rapids, Michigan was 44 degrees; tomorrow, it will go to 70+ degrees. Whatta place to live.

Anyway, just plugged in my new KRK ST 8 monitors = very, very good. My beloved Yorkvilles are history.

Have a great glass of wine while you soak in your pool. EDNA VALLEY PINOT NOIR = ABOUT THE BEST IN THE ENTIRE USA.
