2488 audio problems

I have an original Tascam 2488 which I bought on EBay in 2011. Worked fine for quite a while, then this year just before the summer it began acting weird. It would sometimes lock up or freeze, unable to record, the panel lights would go on and off or stay lit. I thought it was a hard drive issue. I just got around to changing the drive. Now the tracks are all out of order and the audio skips severely. For example, a recording to just tracks 1 & 2, plays back on 16 of the tracks in a constant skipping loop. Prior to installing a new drive, an error message appeared, something like FPGA Error 2.

With the new drive, the error message disappeared. On a cold boot, the audio plays normal, after the
machine warms up for a few minutes, the audio skips and is out of sync.
Any other 2488 user experience this problem ?

I found some reports on this issue in the tascam forum. Also the german forum recording dot de has some info

I hate to see you have a problem like this with these great recorders...but it is well worth buying a used one these days for the deals that are to be had on e-bay especially. Ive just bought my 2nd one in the last year and a half. My first one was(is) the 2488 NEO and it was new(old stock) with warranty and I just bought a "like new" 2488 MKII I love them both so much!! The NEO only cost me like $435 and the MKII $365 !! So it would be worth buying another one rather than headaching with yours for sure !!! :D:thumbs up:
