Does anyone have any experience with the 2488 and the paired tracks? What are the pros and cons about that? Can paired tracks be split? the 2488 is 24 tracks right? How many of those tracks are true mono tracks? I went through the manual but seemed to have missed this subject.

Any help will be appreciated.

I'd like this same info. I just did a couple sessions and it seems that there is no way to separate the stereo tracks and use them as mono tracks. So the machine is really a 12tr mono plus 6 stereo track machine. You can go through the tedious process of recording on a mono track and then move 2 mono tracks to a stereo track but you lose internal volume control of each track ..this could be helpful for exporting wav files as you could split them later into mono for protools mixing etc.(although I'm dealing with some export issues right now. It doesn't seem like a huge software thing to be able to assign the one fader to either left or right..oh well go figure.

Unpairing - NEVER HAPPEN - IMHO

You are right about the pairing issue. You can't split them. I doubt if TASCAM will make that kind of an upgrade. I think that is why the price is so low. You will have to split the tracks by bouncing the stereo pairs to virtual tracks (i.e. 1 - 12). Then you can export.

Yeah... I know... it stinks!
