Trying to sort out our plan of attack to record some material in the near future. We will have a firepod (24 bit, right?) to do the tracking at our bassist's house, but at my house, all I'll have to monitor during mixing is a USB M-Audio MobilePre (which is a 16 bit interface). Is this a bad idea? Will it work?

I'm completely new to computer recording, so I don't really have my head wrapped around the whole concept yet...

will you be recording in both? or whats your plan, record at bassists and mix at your place?

Yes, that's the plan, tentatively. I think I'm more likely to get the mixing work done in my spare time, than he. Probably not much, if any, tracking will be done at my place.

If you are tracking in 24 bit, keep it in 24 bit until your final master.

You can monitor in 16 bit all you want, you just want to track in 24 bit.

Listening through a 16 bit interface shouldn't change the audio in the computer.

Cool. That's what I was thinking/hoping.
