I found this post in the archives, man did it split my sides:

i dunno what everyone here is talking about. Ive got the perfect solution to all your problems. The best mic cabinet to ever hit the earth.

two hundred SM57s. Comes really close to about 20k and you can do just about everything and everything. Just amagine slapping 30 sm57s on a kick drum for one huge kick. how bout all 200 on vocals, and 195 on guitar. You could also run a couple of mics out to your plum tree in the back. Maybe one out to your garage, maybe a couple in the neighbors shower and bedroom. Just think of the possibilities. You could talk them to paint ball wars and use them as grenades. You could use one to grind your pepper.

If only you could imagine the possibilties.

I'm confused. Are you Darnold, or did he post that?

Either way ... it'd be true if the SM57 only sounded any good. But a totally different mic like, say, the SM58 ... well that'd be a real proposition. :D

I'd rather have 10 U87s

or four Ela M 251 Fs

or 13 R-F-T M16s

etc. :)

Actually, it's quite a fun game. I might work on one for a laugh ... and then try not to buy it all on credit!

Hell just pop it all off on one mic! There's gotta be something worth $20k out there...

Something that costs $20k is very different to something actually worth $20k ... :)

Darnold is the original poster.... I, DanRoy, am the reposter (or im-poster?)

i think that neumann digital microphone is close

There was a Grammy Award winning engineer who posted up once at Harmony Central that he was buying 24 channels of FMR RNP. I love the man's work but I thought it a bit eccentric to go so heavy into one mic pre. So, I guess that it's conceivable someone probably does own $20,000 worth of SM57 mics.

Two Telefunken ELA M251s should do it. Add $2K or more and maybe you could buy one vintage version. ;)

Think how many Nady Starpowers you could get for $20,000!

I await the day of Rogue by Behringer and Rogue by Nady. That's when we can build the biggest mic cabinet ever!

you all do realize i was joking right?

hope no one is taking that as serious advice. heh.

200 SM57s? Shure sure would be happy.

Wait...what??? I already placed my order.

Dammit. Guess I'll book only punk bands from now on. ;)

well it doesnt matter because punk bands need 400 SM57s to get there big sound. So either way your basically screwed.

Though i have had good results with 200 SM57s on punk music, but just not pro.

I think the snake to handle 200 57s might be rather pricey. (Unless, of course, you bought a Behringer.)
