I’m making beats on a Yamaha RS7k and a korg triton
They are both sync’d with the RS being the master in the setup
They both go into a tascam fw 1884 via midi(4 ports) and audio

The problem is as follow :
when I make a beat the RS is mainly used as a drum machine so apart from the drum tracks everything else is made on the triton
The song is triggered from the RS, so when I record into cubase I see activities but on playback I get no sounds
could this be due to the fact that i'm chain recording i.e not one sequencer goes directly into the cubase by itself so cubase doesn't know how to reroute the midi data

somebody help me

thanks

Why not use cubase as the master for the rest of your kit? That way you can avoid daisy chaining by purchasing a cheap 2x2 midi box.

i never thought about that perhaps a question of habit , but how would you make the connection and have both sequencers play at the same time and same tempo i ask because the drum track usually 3 or 4 of them are made on the RS7k and the other instruments come from the triton
btw my soundcard has 4 midi port

thanks for the reply

Do you need to use another sequencer? Surely cubase is powerful enough to do the job on its own. I dont know anything about the Tascam (is it a hard disk recorder or the other sequencer???) but you could probably sell the other bit of kit and buy sdome new software or outboard.

let me know a little more about how your set up works and i will be able to better advise you.

Thanks

Keith

i don't plan on using both sequencers but initially

i use to only have a triton as my workstation and life was beautiful :D , then i wanted a drum machine but ended up buying another sequencer i.e the yamaha RS7000 then i decided to use the RS to change the drum pattern for the songs in the triton life became challenging :(
so far with the help of my man FD (respect) i've been able to record on both sequencers by making the RS the master so basically i make the drum on the RS and while playing that pattern i record another sound on the triton. that works i'm even able to record into cubase sx the problem is hearing it during playback

my setup:
tascam fw1884 4 midi port
http://www.tascam.com/product_info.php?pid=269
RS7k is
triton
mpd 16 midi controller 1 midi out

connection:
mpd out to tascam in
rs7k out to triton in
triton out to tascam in
rs7k 2nd out to tascam in

i hope this make sense

And this all gets recorded into cubase how?? Why do you want to record midi into cubase anyway and play it back? Surely the RS7 is doing this job fine?

Is your computer connected to the Tascam via Firewire? (by the way i had a look at the Tascam .... nice bit of kit that)

Cheers

Keith

Just 'cause you CAN do something doesn't mean it's a good thing.

Simplify, simplify, simplify.

all this is recorded by the way i showed the connection above
i open a midi track on cubase record with channel set on ANY
some people synch their MPC with their triton to do what i'm trying to do
the problem with my setup is that the RS has its own sound

I also have a fw-1884 and use Cubase SX, but I'm not doing alot of midi but I'll try to help.

Just to make sure I understand...How are you recording the sounds into Cubase from your external equipment ? Is it being recorded as midi data or as analog files ?

thanks i record into cubase via midi
only vocal gets recorded in audio

When I use midi I know I have to set the channel and output of each midi track to the different soft synths that I might be using.

So I guess I'm asking if the output of that midi track is set to the corresponding midi out on the 1884 ?

Does that make sense ? (told you I'm not a midi guru :) )

Sorry mate but how is your com[puter running cubase connected to all of the other kit. Is it via the tascam? What is the mpd?

Once i know this i can help.

Thanks

Keith

all the sequencers are connected to computer via the tascam
the mpd is midi controller ( drum pad) i use to bang out drum patterns

When I use midi I know I have to set the channel and output of each midi track to the different soft synths that I might be using.

So I guess I'm asking if the output of that midi track is set to the corresponding midi out on the 1884 ?

i do try to have the sound got back directly to the corresponding machine but only the Out to the RS produces any sound but it's the wrong sound
